Last week a couple of friends of mine sent me a story about a plague of locusts moving toward South Sudan and the Boma area specifically. According to the reports, locusts have already destroyed 170,000 acres in Kenya and are moving rapidly toward South Sudan.
Boma is situated approximately 50 miles from Ethiopia and 100 miles from Kenya. It’s climate is conducive to agricultural programs.
The article notes,
“They are now heading toward Uganda and fragile South Sudan, where almost half the country faces hunger as it emerges from civil war.”
This could wreak havoc on crop production in the southeastern part of South Sudan where farming is critical for the survival of local villagers. Traditional methods as well as extensive spraying are being employed to mitigate the spread of these pests but their potential impact on crops remains a grave concern. This is one of those times where we need to pray for our brothers and sisters in South Sudan. Please pray that God would stop this spread of locusts to South Sudan and that they can be eradicated in all the regions of East Africa.
Thank you for your faithful support of these people in South Sudan. They appreciate your efforts on their behalf.
